We worry about you and want you to be able to stay cool in the summer. We also want you to be able to have enough funds at your disposal to take your kids to the beach or the park or the ballgame when you want. After all, it’s summer time and the kids don’t have to wake up for school tomorrow, right?

• Do whatever you can possibly do to keep the sun out of the house. Well, you should explore blinds, either vertical or horizontal, along with drapes that are going to keep the light out, along with shades and tinted film. Windows bring in air, certainly, but they also bring in heat. Take some steps to minimize that, and you will find that you can run your AC at a lower pace, thus saving some money in the process.

• Take a little survey of the rooms in your house. You know how big it is; we don’t. Maybe it’s a home where every place is “lived in,” and in that case, we congratulate you. But if it isn’t, then you want to consider the rooms that aren’t used all that much and direct air flow into other places that are needed by closing the air ducts. When the distribution of air is more extensive, the AC system is doing more work.
